The Adverse Effects of Mass Incarceration and Fatalities on Black Families and Communities

The families of victims are often overlooked when examining the financial, emotional and psychological damage of pervasive incarceration and fatalities on Black families and the communities. The devastation can have lasting generational effects. Indeed, the adverse effects have relational significance to slavery. As scholars, we need to consider the overall cost to Black families and the communities as a factor when assessing the impact of enduring racism.
